Volunteers suspected that these oriental storks eventually died because of eating poisonous fish, and immediately reported the case to the public security department.

During the investigation, the public security department learned that Sun Moumou, the contractor of the fish pond, bought pond-cleaning chemicals from other places online in order to clean the fish pond, and there was still excessive delivery during the delivery process. After testing, the pond cleaning agent contains phorate, a pesticide whose use is restricted by the state.
