Kia officially entered the electric vehicle market in China: the EV5/EV9 concept car was unveiled, and the first pure tram EV6 is expected to be launched in August.

On March 20th, KIA held the 2023 KIA China New Energy Strategy Conference tonight, officially announcing its entry into the electric vehicle market in China. . In addition, Kia plans to launch Kia’s flagship electric SUV EV9 in 2024, and launch a high-end electric car based on a new generation of electric vehicle platform in 2026.

At the meeting, EV5 concept car, EV9 concept car and EV6 GT were unveiled. Among them, the design of EV5 concept car is inspired by the design concept of unity of opposites, in which the front face adopts a brand-new digital tiger-roaring design and adopts the design of opposite doors, and the production version will be launched in China in November this year.

Kia EV9 concept car is a pure electric medium and large SUV built by Kia. The new car is based on the E-GMP pure electric platform. The official map has been announced before, and the production version will be launched in China in 2024. The new car is equipped with solar panels to charge the vehicle. The new car has a door-to-door design and is equipped with an electronic exterior rearview mirror, but these design elements have not been retained in the production version.

The EV9 concept car has a vehicle length of more than 5000mm and a wheelbase of 3100mm, and is positioned in a pure electric medium and large SUV, with 3 rows and 6 seats inside. Wherein the first row and the third row of seats can rotate, and the second row of seats can be folded into a table. In the power part, the EV9 concept car has an 800V high-voltage fast charging system, and the charging power can reach 350kW. It is worth mentioning that, as Kia is the first vehicle equipped with highway automatic driving system (HDP) in China, the production version of EV9 to be launched in the future is expected to be equipped with L3 automatic driving system.

In terms of energy supplement, Kia New Energy and Shell formally cooperated in charging pile service. In the future, Kia’s pure electric vehicles will be able to reserve Shell charging piles for recharging through online App. In terms of services, Kia brand App was launched in the second half of this year as a comprehensive platform, covering all areas of automobile life such as car purchase, car use, service, information and entertainment.

According to IT House, Kia has also released a new energy strategy, with a global sales target of 4.3 million vehicles in 2023, including 1.6 million pure electric vehicles, and 15 pure electric vehicles will be launched by 2027. In the China market, Kia’s sales target in 2030 is 450,000 vehicles, with new energy vehicles accounting for 40%. In terms of product planning, by 2027, six pure electric vehicles will be launched based on the E-GMP platform, including the flagship SUV-EV9 in 2024, the entry-level pure electric SUV in 2025, the high-end electric car based on the special platform for new generation electric vehicles in 2026 and a medium-sized pure electric SUV in 2027.
