Inquiring and Clearing Method of Harley Motorcycle Fault Code

Harley-Davidson motorcycles will inevitably have various problems in use.

For example, sometimes the instrument shows "NOFOB" and the motorcycle can’t be started. At this time, it is necessary to check whether the induction key is on you and whether the built-in button cell is insufficient. The internal battery of the induction key (a CR2032 button cell) can work for 3 years generally, and the replacement is relatively simple. First, buy the model "CR2032" button cell online for two or three yuan. Just pry the induction key open with a screwdriver or similar hard objects and replace it. The main positive and negative poles should not be reversed.

Another example is that the instrument suddenly lights up with a small red light prompt, which is sometimes continuous or occasional. This means that there may be problems with the electrical equipment of the vehicle, such as abnormal headlights, abnormal lights, and abnormal lights. If the replacement of the cottage leads to an occasional small red light prompt, don’t worry too much, it will not lead to adverse consequences, but the cottage is not up to standard, and the BCM module of the vehicle thinks that the light is out of order.

Sometimes the fault light will light up, so you should pay attention to it at this time. Whether it is a continuous fault or an accidental fault, you should check it necessary to get the fault location and deal with it. Sometimes, some faults will lead to recording fault codes, but they will not make the fault light light up. You can also judge whether the car is in normal condition through the query of fault codes.

Harley-Davidson motorcycle itself provides the function of inquiring and clearing the fault code, which is displayed on the instrument LCD screen. To inquire the fault code, you need to find the "TRIP" button. The position of this TRIP button is different in different years, and the old Harley is usually behind the instrument, while the new Harley is usually in the button on the left side of the handlebar, through which you can switch various types of instruments (gear display, speed, total time, etc.). As indicated by the figure arrow:

Hold down the TRIP button, unscrew the key door or press the main switch:

Pay attention to the LCD screen at this time, and you can release the TRIP button as shown below:

The LCD screen shows diag, which is English for "diagnosis". At this time, the TRIP key is still mainly used, which can be divided into short press and long press. The short press can be understood as mouse click or selection, and the long press as OK key.

After a short press of the TRIP key, you can see PSSPT, which corresponds to different component types in the system, as shown in the following table:

Press the TRIP key briefly to switch the identifier, and the flashing letters represent the current selection. Press the TRIP key again to check whether there are any fault codes under the currently selected classification. If the word NONE is displayed, it means that there are no fault codes in the current classification:

If the word norsp is displayed, it means that the car is not equipped with this module. If you see this prompt when selecting the ECM module, it means that the switch has not turned on the "master switch".

If there is a fault code, the words P1234 will be displayed. Press the TRIP key briefly to see the next fault code. If there is no next fault code, the words END will be displayed. If there is a fault code, it is recommended to take a photo or record the fault code with a pen to find out the meaning of the fault code. When the fault code is displayed, press the TRIP key for a long time to clear the fault code.

The fault code is CLEARed successfully, and the words "clear" will be displayed:

Clearing the fault code does not mean that the fault has been cleared, but some faults are accidental and some are persistent. After clearing the fault code, run and ride, and then inquire again. If the fault code reappears, it means that the fault persists. If the fault code no longer appears, it means that the fault is accidental and needs to be observed.

To exit the diagnosis mode, just close the key door or turn off the main switch. After finding the fault code, you can search for the corresponding fault meaning through the fault code. Harley fault code has the same standard as motor vehicle fault code, and most of them can get the results online. For example, you can see the results by searching with "fault code P1234" as the keyword.
